A Year of Growth for Canada’s Ports as Rupert and Vancouver Beat SeaTac

Canada 491 Corp - Ports 880 Mode - Containerized 1468 Mode - Seaborne 1801 U.S. 5317

Container handling through Canada’s big three ports climbed for a 12th straight month in October with a 14% increase on a year earlier. DP World’s expanded facilities at the Port of Prince Rupert led the way, resulting in a 54% increase. Vancouver’s more modest 4% rise was due to a 5% drop in export handling. The two combined outpaced the Puget Sound ports of Seattle and Tacoma again, with a 9% rise compared to SeaTac’s 11% drop. The latter may improve in November after SSA Marine took over Maersk’s lease. Canadian growth was widespread, with Montreal also expanding by 13%.
