AMAG, Constellium avoid aluminum action, shipments still in decline

The U.S. Commerce Department has applied preliminary tariffs on imports of common aluminum alloy sheet (CAAS) from 18 countries at rates of as much as 352.7%. That comes on top of section 232 “national security tariffs” applied since 2017. Final rulings are only due in April 2021 but there’s already been an impact on supply chains. U.S. imports of CAAS from the 18 countries targeted fell by 68.0% year over year in July and August combined while those from all other countries declined by just 16.2%.
