The Brazilian government has postponed a decision on whether to impose tariffs on ethanol imports by 30 days. Tariffs had previously been applied in 2010, and are a response to rising imports. U.S. producers can ill-afford the tariffs. Panjiva data shows U.S. shipments to Brazil jumped 40% on a year earlier in the quarter to May 31. Brazil accounted for 46% of total U.S. sales over that period, and was the main driver of the 83% jump in the volume of exports.
