Bigger difficulties ahead as COVID-19, consumers drag on Chinese exports in March

China’s international trade activity fell by 4.8% year over year in March in dollar terms, including a 6.5% slide in exports. The latter was a slower rate of decline than that seen in January and February when there was a 17.2% drop, indicating a return to business for China as the coronavirus outbreak lessened. Yet, China’s “foreign trade is encountering bigger difficulties” due to the global spread of coronavirus according to the government. That can be seen in a drop in exports of consumer goods versus components. Exports of apparel fell by 24.8% while textiles only declined by 6.3%. ...
