Container handling in Singapore increased 8% on a year earlier in April. That was a second month of growth and meant total volumes handled increased by 3% despite a 10% drop in oil volumes. The port underperformed Hong Kong’s 10% growth in container handling, though it did better on U.S.-bound routes. Shipments to the U.S. increased 2% on a year earlier, led by a 76% rise in the route to Long Beach. That came at the expense of Los Angeles, which contracted 12%, and may indicate a return to “pre-Hanjin Shipping crisis” operations.
