Canada’s ports are making long-term investments to fix the short-term congestion issues they faced in late 2018. The latest move is advanced paperwork filing to reduce truck turn times at port facilities run by MSC and others in Montreal. That’s come as export growth at the port reached 10.8% year over year in 1Q. More generally there’s been a slowdown in traffic growth across Canada – including DP World’s Prince Rupert as well as Vancouver and Montreal – with an increase of 4.4% in 1Q compared to a 7.0% rise in 2018.
