Taiwan’s exports in September fell 2% on a year earlier, rather than growing 3% as economists expected. The government blames the impact of Typhoon Meranti, the risks of which were flagged in Panjiva research of September 15. Semiconductor growth of 25% on a year earlier bodes well for smartphone shipments, though heavier goods’ exports are doing less well – as shown by shipments to the U.S. that fell 6%.
