CMA-CGM Aims for Trans-Atlantic Competitive Space as Eagle Is Launched

Corp - Shipping 976 European Union 826 Mode - Containerized 1468 Mode - Seaborne 1801 U.S. 5317

CMA-CGM’s APL unit is adding Transatlantic routes to its premium “Eagle GO Guaranteed” service. That’s part of a broader roll-out, and provides an alternative reaction to competitive markets than simply cutting rates. The group had already been building its market share, with volumes on U.S.-inbound Transatlantic routes having risen by 20% on a year earlier in the first quarter vs. an industry average 6%. It has room to develop further as CMA-CGM’s market share of 14% lags market leaders MSC (25%), Hapag-Lloyd (18%) and Maersk (16%).
