CMA-CGM Suffers Sector’s Fate, Saadé Still Chipper as Container Profitability Improves

CMA-CGM has completed the 2Q reporting for the container lines by reporting a drop in its profitability (EBITDA margin) to 4% from 11% a year earlier. The sector overall fell to 7% from 13%. A 3% increase in group revenues wasn’t enough to offset a rise in bunker fuel costs as the company’s average achieved rates were more-or-less unchanged. Nonetheless CEO Rodolphe Saadé has confirmed his positive outlook for both volumes and margins for the result of the year.
