Glencore, Codelco copper exports corrode as coronavirus spreads

The mining industry is starting to feel the effects of the coronavirus outbreak both in safety-related mine closures and reduced demand. Chile’s exports of copper, including those by Codelco, dropped 4.3% year over year in January. That included a 7.5% slip in shipments to China – which represented 52.0% of exports in the past 12 months. Peru’s exports fell 7.0% in January and may have dropped by as much as 22.8% in February.
