LNG Export Limits From Australia Will Help U.S. Suppliers to China

Australia will restrict its natural gas exports, via LNG shipping, from January 2018. That’s delayed from July 2017, and results from a persistent shortfall in supply vs. domestic demand. Australian exports are already being cut this month due to an outage at Chevron’s Gorgon facility. Demand is also slowing. Imports by China, Japan and South Korea rose 15% in dollar terms in the past quarter on a year earlier, but prices fell by 17%.
