Local Content Rules Come To Indian Solar Projects, Supports Longi’s New Factory

Energy - Renewables 182 India 511 Tariffs 1793

The Indian government appears set to apply local-content requirements to new solar power project tenders. That would be consistent with the “Make in India” tariffs being used in other high tech industries, including smartphones. Chinese manufacturer Longi has preempted the policy with plans to build a factory in India. Indian imports of solar panels have already fallen 38% in the three months to April 30 to hit their lowest in April since May 2016. China remains the main supplier nation though with a 92% share of $3.1 billion of Indian imports in the past 12 months.
