ONE Not First on Fuel, Aiming To Make Up For Lost Time

Ocean Network Express has announced a set of fuel surcharges for its container-line services worth $51/TEU on average. That comes after CMA-CGM’s $55/TEU fees and Maersk’s $60/TEU and will add around 6% to underlying shipping rates. The strategy of being slightly later and slightly lower in implementing surcharges may partly be an attempt by ONE to win back market share after booking system problems in April. ​​​​​​​ONE’s share of U.S.-inbound traffic in May was 10% vs. 9% in April but was well below the 12% peak of September 2017.
