Bangladesh’s apparel industry has faced significant challenges due to cancelled orders from retailers across Europe and the Americas during COVID-19. That resulted in manufacturing output falling by 55.6% in May according to industry associate BGMEA. U.S. seaborne imports of apparel from Bangladesh dropped by 74.4% year over year in May compared to an 80.7% slide in shipments from India. Imports from China and Vietnam have done better.
