Savannah’s Scale-Up Needs Amazon and Home Depot To Switch Out of China

The Georgia Ports Authority has detailed a $2.5 billion investment to expand its containerized freight capacity by 46% to eight million TEUs by 2021. That’s in response to 5% annual demand growth over the past three years which has accelerated to 9% in the past year and led to an 85% capacity utilization. The expansion in handling has been driven by imports from China which have risen 9% annually in the past three years and now account for 40% of inbound traffic.
