$9 billion Month for Shipbuilding May Be Sign That Refinancing Works

The shipbuilding industry may have had its best month in April since June 2012 after exports from China, Japan and South Korea climbed to over $9.1 billion, Panjiva analysis shows. That was a 51% jump, and meant the 12 month trailing average decline of 2% was the slowest in 16 months. A rebound in South Korean sales was the main driver. It remains to be seen whether that is an ongoing effect from recent refinancing activities by the government. Similar moves in China, possibly via COSCO Development, may lead to higher orders too.
