The ASEAN+3 group which includes China, Japan and South Korea have reached an agreement to set up “a reserve of essential medical suppliers” and “enhance cooperation” in regional supply chains in response to the coronavirus pandemic. That raises the risk of limits in shipping of medical supplies to the rest of the world in the longer term. The group accounted for 33.5% of global exports of medical personal protective equipment in 2018.
