Global trade in liquefied natural gas (LNG) climbed 10% on a year earlier in 2017. That was led by a 42% surge in Chinese imports as well as an acceleration in shipments from the U.S. American LNG exporters including Cheniere and Dominion have signed several LNG export contracts to China. Yet, these may be at risk if the Chinese government makes good on its threat to scale back purchases of American energy and agriculture products if the U.S. applies section 301 duties.
