China Closes Door on Australian Beef, Rounds Up New American Suppliers

The Chinese food safety authorities have suspended imports of beef from one third of Australia’s export facilities while also adding further U.S. plants to the list of approved facilities. Australia accounted for 23% of Chinese beef imports in the past year, having previously lost market share to Brazilian producers. American ranchers are getting access to China for the first time after a deal signed in June. That comes at an opportune time after exports from the U.S. fell 12% in the past quarter.
