The USDA is considering allowing the import of Colombian Hass avocados under certain conditions. This follows a relaxation of the rules on Mexican fruit in May. Panjiva data shows this allowed Mexican producers to take a 45% share of U.S. imports in August from 30% in the previous five months. Peruvians lost out in sales to Wal-Mart and others, with their share falling to 14% from 42%. Colombian avocado exports increased 207% in August, with 98% of exports going to the European Union so far.
