U.S. toy sales likely fell 1.8% year over year in 2018 with plush toys down 10.0% and action figures having risen by 10.0% according to NPD. That shouldn’t be a surprise given imports fell 1.7% year over year as at the end of November. Among the major toymakers Hasbro may have done best after a 10.8% increase in shipments in 2H 2018 – the peak import season. Disney meanwhile saw a 2.4% drop, possibly due to lower sales of Star Wars merchandise, while Mattel’s shipments dropped 19.0%.
