Japanese auto manufacturers’ exports reached their highest since February 2012 in September, Panjiva analysis shows, driven in part by the highest production since March 2016. The 5% annual increase in exports was the result of a 148% jump by Honda despite the Kumamoto earthquake, while Nissan’s exports to the U.S. increased 89%. This was the exception though – total U.S. imports from Japan fell 12%, Panjiva data shows, as U.S. sales of imported autos fell by the same amount.
