Honda Changes Gear, Rather Than Revving Up, in Brazil As Growth Remains Slow

Brazil 415 Cons. Discr. - Autos 1247

Honda will finally open a car factory in built in Brazil in 2015. Rather than representing a growing market though the company is making the move to improve efficiency vs. its other plant in the country. The move comes as the growth in Brazilian production of cars slowed to 15% on a year earlier in the first quarter vs. a 24% rise in 2017 due to a slowdown in exports. That marks a contrast to accelerating exports in Mexico. Honda’s lackluster growth in Brazil can be seen in a 4% rise in parts imports in the three months to February 28 vs. 6% in the prior nine months.
