The Indian government is considering applying minimum import prices or tariffs against aluminum product imports from China and the UAE. Panjiva data shows China’s aluminum exports have been falling, with only one month of year-over-year increases in 2016, and exports to India fell 18% in July. By contrast exports to the U.S. and Japan have increased. The key export product to India is aluminum foils, which are 8% higher year-to-date at end July. Exporters including Hangzhou Dingsheng, Xiashun and Jiangsu Zhongji may lose out if action is taken.
