India Urges Import Vigilance As Chinese Fireworks Fizzle

India’s CBEC has urged customs offices to be vigilant for illegal fireworks exports from China. Imports require a license, with official shipments being minimal. China’s global exports of fireworks have been in decline, with a 7% drop on a year earlier in the 12 months to August 31 and 20% vs. the peak of March 2015. Exports are also highly seasonal with peaks in May (ahead of Eid al-Fitr and U.S. Independence Day) and October (in time for the Gregorian calendar new year) making “infill” exports in September a way for manufacturers to smooth production.
