India’s international trade policies face a period of upheaval following the elections. The Modi administration faces the loss of reduced tariffs on U.S.-bound exports as a result of withdrawal of Generalized System of Preferences eligibility. That will increase duties on 11.9% of India’s exports to the U.S, making a trade deal with China – likely the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) – more important.
