Japan-India Pact May Drive Significant LNG Trade Growth

The Japanese and Indian governments have signed a cooperation deal to develop LNG assets across Asia. Japan will invest up to $10 billion on a public-private partnership basis, while India’s big three oil companies have already committed to increasing their gas use. Panjiva data shows Indian imports of natural gas already expanded 72% year-to-date on a year earlier. They have much further to go – Japan imports 5.7x as much after growing by 22% year-to-date.
