The WTO has sided with China in a dispute regarding U.S. section 301 tariffs on Chinese exports that were applied as part of the two countries’ trade war. The case is largely irrelevant given China already applied retaliatory duties and given the WTO’s dispute mechanism is broken. Yet, it indicates the febrile nature of U.S.-China relations.
