Calls for tighter regulations regarding handheld weapons in the U.S. have included stricter sales rules at retailers including Dick’s Sporting Goods. That hasn’t crimped demand however with FBI background checks having risen 6.6% year over year in January. U.S. imports have also been increasing with seaborne shipments of weapons, parts and ammunition up by as much as 23.3% year over year in January. Most of the major manufacturers have scaled up their imports including a 25.0% increase in January from Beretta as well as higher imports by Herstal SA and Glock GmBH.
