President Donald Trump has criticized French trade practices, including wine import duties that are higher than America’s. On the basis of WTO duties French import duties are equivalent to 36.2 cents per liter, while America’s are 16.9 cents per liter. The U.S. does indeed run a significant trade deficit in wine with France which was worth $1.95 billion in the 12 months to Oct. 31 on bilateral trade worth $2.10 billion.
