U.S. imports of P-PI drugs to manage gastrointestinal disorders climbed 30% in November to reach an all time high, Panjiva data shows. This reflects increased imports of esomeprazole, the generic version of AstraZeneca’s Nexium, which jumped 743% in the past three months on a year earlier. That was the result of eight manufacturers being approved to make it, of which Teva and Cipla are the largest exporters to the U.S.
