Qatar Military Jet Deal a Boon To Shrinking U.S. Arms Exports

Industrials - Aero/Defense 203 Qatar 16 U.S. 5399

The U.S. has signed a $12 billion military aircraft deal with Qatar shortly after the diplomatic embargo by six countries including Saudi Arabia of Qatar. This is a multi-year deal, but it is worth noting that U.S. exports of military aircraft in the 12 months to April 30 were $4.3 billion, down 11% on a year earlier. Qatar accounted for 6% of the total. Ground-based systems, including armored vehicles and weapons, grew 11% to $6.6 billion. Qatar only accounted for 1%, though April did represent the biggest month for its imports from the U.S. since at least January 2009.
