The U.S. FDA has told Congress that there were few restrictions on pharmaceutical imports during the COVID-19 crisis. Looking more broadly at medical supplies there has been a marked improvement in imports to the U.S. using trade authority definitions in April versus March. Imports of medical supplies in total rose by 11.7% sequentially in April including a 122% surge in protective equipment, a 5.9% increase in pharmaceuticals and 5.3% improvement in ventilators.
