The Indian government is aiming to slash imports of the fertilizer urea by restarting five manufacturing facilities. As well as cutting import dependence the extra capacity will boost demand for natural gas and gasified coal in India. India’s total fertilizer imports jumped 26.7% year over year in the 12 months to Oct. 31 to reach $6.66 billion. Urea was the leading product with 36.1% of the total after growth of 74.4%.
