Top Glove stretched, U.S. COVID-19 PPE shipments lose out

Coronavirus 511 Health Care 362 Malaysia 160 Thailand 145 U.S. 5399

Medical glove maker Top Glove now has a backlog of orders equivalent to 400 days of production, up from 40 days as of three months ago, due to COVID-19 related demand for personal protective equipment. Supplies to the U.S. have fallen recently with seaborne imports linked to Top Glove down by 10.0% year over year in May. A similar drop can be seen in supplies linked to Kossan Rubber and Sri Trang. There was a 39.8% surge in shipments linked to Hartalega but that couldn’t prevent an 8.5% dip in total U.S. seaborne imports of rubber gloves in May.
