Japan’s auto manufacturers exported 3.5% more vehicles in August, despite the first Mountain Day holiday and the disruptive Typhoon Lionrock. Mazda increased exports 36%, while Honda increased U.S. exports by 53%. Overall U.S. imports of Japanese vehicles fell 20.6% on a year earlier though. This included a 25.2% drop from Toyota, perhaps reflecting increased local production rather than less confidence in future sales.
