French businesses’ export order confidence high its highest since February 2008 in the October INSEE survey. The +2% reading compares to a long-term average of -14% and a recent low of -11% in November. Sentiment rose in the food and beverages sector despite a forthcoming slump in wine production. Confidence may reflect pro-business policies from the Macron regime, while worries about Brexit and American tariffs haven’t yet impacted activity. A sixth straight rise in exports in August will have helped confidence of course.
