The five year National Congress of the Communist Party in China focussed more on leadership than economic policies, as expected. President Xi Jinping did refer however to strengthening and reform of state-owned enterprises to create “world-class” firms. For COSCO Shipping (partially controlled by the state) that may mean the ability to pursue further growth via acquisitions. Indeed, the company itself has recently stated that shipping consolidation will be a long-term feature of the shipping industry.
