The U.S. government has received 8,241 requests for exemptions from America’s section 301 duties on Chinese exports. The duties covered around $50 billion of products in two lists applied on July 6 and August 24. Exemptions have been received from 788 companies. None have had a formal approval yet while 9.9% of the requests have been denied. A large proportion of tariff-afflicted products are covered by the exemption requests.
