Adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted does not appear too worried about the trade stance of the incoming U.S. administration. He still expects the company to source from Asia, and the whole industry has the same, import-led business model. That may mean consumers end up paying for tariffs. Adidas’ imports increased 109% in the fourth quarter, with Vietnam accounting for 38% of supplies in the past year compared to 28% in 2013. Looking at the sports shoe industry more broadly, imports increased 46% in the fourth quarter, with Vietnamese suppliers holding a 26% market share.
