Amazon, Flexport Show Way Forward in Tough Month For Logistics Sector

The U.S. freight forwarding sector had a tough start to 4Q 2019 with U.S.-seaborne import volumes down 5.2% year over year in November after an 8.7% slide in October. The top three forwarders all saw a downturn with Expeditors and CH Robinson down by 7.9% and 7.6% respectively in November. Europe-focused DP DHL and DB Schenker outperformed their peers with growth of 8.0% and 13.3% respectively. The main challengers continued to surge with Amazon’s volumes up by 179% and Flexport’s rising 342%. Both have a long way to go however with market shares of around 0.2% each.
