The USDA is proposing to remove swine fever restrictions on Mexican pork exports. This is a technical matter, though agriculture will be an important part of forthcoming NAFTA talks. The restrictions haven’t been a big problem. Mexican exports increased 21% in the second quarter as a result of a marked uptick in shipments to Canada. Mexican producers including Porcicola Mexicana and Alpro currently only have a 4% market share in the U.S.
