APL Pays Off for CMA-CGM in Trans-Pac Volumes, Better Profitability

Container-line CMA-CGM reported a 14% rise in 4Q revenues. While that was the slowest rate of growth since 3Q 2016, the prior periods had a larger benefit from the takeover of APL. That post-deal integration was a likely driver of the healthy 14% growth in Trans-Pacific volumes for the quarter, with further growth of 17% in the first two months of 2018. The Trans-Pacific lanes’ growth also allowed CMA-CGM’s revenues to outperform Hapag-Lloyd, though it was a little slower than Maersk’s 16%.
