Aramco Aims for PetroChina Refinery to Arrest Crude Oil Import Share Slide

Saudi Aramco is reported to be in talks to buy a stake in an oil refinery in from PetroChina in Yunnan province. That likely reflects a desire on Aramco’s part to secure its supplies of crude oil to China. While Saudi oil supplies to China climbed 8% in the past 12 months on a year earlier, it has lost market share. Its share of Chinese crude oil imports dropped 1.2% points to 12% over the same period, alongside Oman and Iraq which lost 2% points each.
