Fans of guacamole, avocado toast, and cinco de mayo narrowly missed experiencing supply chain issues firsthand as the U.S. temporarily banned imports of avocadoes from Mexico. The restriction was spurred by death threats made to an on-site U.S. Agriculture inspector who among other things checks that the avocadoes were grown in that state. Panjiva data shows that $2.8 billion dollars in avocados arrived in the U.S. in 2021, up 25.3% year over year from 2020.
