Biodiesel Battle Between EU and Indonesia May Help U.S. Dairy Farmers

Global trade policy shifts can link sectors and countries in a complex web of knock-on effects. The EU is applying tariffs of up to 18% on Indonesian biofuel exports after they surged to 30.7% of the EU’s imports of the total in the 12 months to May 31 from zero in 2017, or 703 million euros ($795 million). The Indonesian government will sanction 302 million euros of EU dairy exports in response, or 2.7% of total EU dairy exports, at a tariff rate of up to 18%. That may provide an opening for U.S. dairy farmers and processors who have seen a 59.8% year over year slump in exports to China...
