The EU is making progress on major trade deals outside it’s on-again, off-again Brexit negotiations. Progress on the EPA trade deal with Japan looks set to resume ahead of a year-end target after dispute settlement issues were shelved. While the deal will cut tariffs worth $1.1 billion, it matters more to Japan than the EU. Japan’s exports to the EU were 11% of its total, whereas EU exports to Japan were just 3% of the EU’s total.
