Exports from Germany jumped 5.4% in August vs. July according to official figures – their fastest rate since May 2010 and beating economists’ expectations of a 2.2% increase. The 5% year-on-year growth included exports to China rising 6% and seaborne exports to the U.S. leaping 23%. This rate may not be sustained. German export managers remain optimistic, but industry associations are less upbeat. Exports to the U.S. fell 4.3% in September, Panjiva data shows.
