The U.S. ITC has set September 12 as the next round of hearings on alleged dumping of softwood lumber by Canadian exporters. That will coincide with NAFTA negotiations. Canadian exports to the U.S. have already started to fall, with a 28% drop in May vs. April to the lowest since February 2016. Shipments by the big five producers also fell in June by 10%, led by a 60% decline by Tolko. Exports in July may also be trimmed, in part due to disruptions in British Columbia caused by wildfires.
