The ongoing strike at Canadian National Rail has started to disrupt Canadian exports of commodities, providing an opportunity for marine shipping companies to take market share. Oil is the largest product already shipped by sea to the U.S. from Canada with 25.2 million tons shipped in the 12 months to Oct. 31, following growth of 8.8% year over year in the three months to Oct. 31.
